Short-term Care Quality
In addition to being a strong facility overall, this nursing home also excelled in our short-term care category, where it received a grade of A+. Few facilities performed better in this area. Short-term care grades are commonly employed to grade a nursing home's rehabilitation services. In order to provide highly scored rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to have better levels of skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other licensed professionals. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. However, according to the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final statistic we looked at in this area is the number of patients that were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that 6.4 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we rated this facility so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing grade. Nursing proved to be its second best category grade. In that area, we gave this nursing home an A+. In calculating our nursing grades, we look at both nursing hours and the training levels of the nurses. This facility provided 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility New Jersey in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as employing a system of turning patients at least once a day.

Facility Inspections
Adding to this facility's impressive resume, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for our inspections rating. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing these inspection grades. One critical factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these are quite insignificant. While this place had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
In our last category, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for our long-term care rating. This topped off an elite report card. When facilities receive a grade in this range in long-term care it typically means it has plenty of staff and is an overall good place to live on a permanent basis. Once we looked at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia. Vaccines are vital to keeping patients healthy. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
