Facility Inspections
In addition to being a great overall grade, this facility also received A+ health inspections in recent years. Its inspections were virtually flawless. Inspection grades weigh several factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we consider is the number and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher scores in this area generally have very few of these severe deficiencies. While this place had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home also received an A+ for its nursing grade. Our nursing grade is mostly tied to the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This place boasts a really impressive 5 hours of nursing care per patient per day, of which a significant percentage was provided by registered nurses. This is one of the most highly trained levels of nurses. In addition to providing high levels of nursing care, this facility also excelled in the quality-based metrics we looked at. It performed as well as any nursing home in Wisconsin in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.
Short-term Care Quality
In the third category we assessed, this facility was given high marks in the category of short-term care. As a result, it was given one of our most impressive scores in that area with a of A+. In our short-term care rating, we endeavor to create a fair measure for rehabilitation. In this process, we assess a facility's levels of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. This nursing home is substantially above average in terms of its quantity of both registered nurse and physical therapy hours offered to its residents. The facility offered approximately one and a half times as much care per resident from both of these groups of skilled professionals than a typical facility provided. Finally, we looked at the number of residents that eventually returned home from this facility. It performed better than most nursing homes with 52.9 percent of its residents returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
The last category we rated was long-term care, where this facility received an A. This wrapped up a first-rate report card. Few facilities earned an A- or higher in all four categories. Nursing homes that excel in long-term care typically provide residents with better supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. In addition to considering the elite volume of care provided by aids and other staff at this facility, we also were impressed by the facility's vaccination record. By way of example, this nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is very impressive. This combination proved to be successful as this nursing home keeps its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.83 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
