Short-term Care Quality
To pair with its strong overall score, we gave this facility an A for short-term care. Our short-term care grade is often used to assess a facility's performance with rehabilitation. In order to provide good rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to have better levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other highly skilled individuals. One reason for this facility's strong score in this category is that it provides more care with registered nurses to its residents than the average nursing home. Finally, we assessed the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. This place outperformed the vast majority of facilities in the country with 62.5 percent of its residents returning home.
Facility Inspections
This facility has received near flawless health inspections in recent years. We awarded them an impressive grade of A in this category. Inspection scores are based on datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent government inspections. Nursing homes that excel in this area tend to have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these places generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This place received 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered severe. This means that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies to create an imminent threat to resident safety or health. Remember that deficiency-free inspections are rare in the industry.
Nurse Quality
Adding to its impressive resume, this nursing home also excelled in our nursing category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A- for that category. In calculating our nursing scores, we analyze both staffing levels and the training levels of those nurses. This particular nursing home provided 3.2 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. At least one quarter of this care was provided by registered nurses, which are highly skilled nurses. This is a high ratio of skilled nursing. In determining our nursing scores, we apply more weight to care provided by more highly trained nurses such as registered or licensed nurses. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can generally be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
Long-term Care Quality
Switching gears to the final area, this nursing home was given an acceptable long-term care rating. While this is not as good as a few of its other grades, this is truly not a major area of concern. Our long-term care grade assesses a facility's assistance with daily living instead of the skilled nursing and medical services that are critical to a rehabilitation facility. One of the factors we considered on top of nursing hours was vaccinations. Thankfully, this nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to 95.89041 percent of its residents. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.28 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility had fewer hospitalizations than most nursing homes.
