While this facility's overall grade was decent, it really excelled in the category of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that category, which is one of our highest scores. Inspection ratings account for a host of factors found on a facility's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we consider is the number and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with higher scores in this area generally have few of these severe deficiencies. This nursing home was assessed 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered to be major deficiencies. This means that the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies to be an imminent risk to resident health or safety. A few relatively minor deficiencies aren't necessarily something to panic about.

One of the other reasons we graded this facility so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing grade. In fact, nursing proved to be its second best category grade. In that area, we gave this nursing home an B. There are a variety of criteria within this category. Most of these criteria are tied to the quantity and quality of nurse staffing. This facility provided 3.1 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed certain nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these statistics as reliable measures of the caliber of nursing care provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.

We also awarded this nursing home a middle of the pack grade in the category of short-term care, where we gave it a grade of C. In determining our short-term care ratings, we analyze the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The objective is to formulate a barometer for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various facilities. Fortunately, this nursing home offers both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities offer both. The last metric we looked at in this area is the number of residents that were able to return home from the facility. We found that just 40.1 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Moving on to the last area, this nursing home received a C in long-term care, which is a respectable rating. Our long-term care scores are more meaningful for individuals needing more traditional assistance associated with activities of daily living. On top of considering the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility vaccinated just 90.45226 percent of its patients, which is not a very encouraging sign. Nevertheless, this facility keeps its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
