Registered Staff Hours
Short-term Care Quality
In addition to receiving a great overall grade, this nursing home also earned an excellent short-term care grade, with an A. Our short-term care scores are meaningful for individuals looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically utilizes higher levels of highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes a broad spectrum of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last item we considered in this area is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We discovered that 6.1 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.
Facility Inspections
Adding to this nursing home's impressive resume, we awarded this nursing home an A- for inspections. Arguably the most important factor we consider in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Places with better grades in this area typically avoided the more severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.

Nurse Quality
Another one of this facility's impressive category grades came in the area of nursing care. We awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of B+. There are quite a few subcategories included in this grade. Most of the criteria are tied to the quantity of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can many times be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
Long-term Care Quality
Moving on to our fourth area, this nursing home was given a high-end long-term care score. While this wasn't as strong as some of its other category grades, this remains one of the stronger scores a facility can receive. In a long-term care setting, the nursing home's primary objective is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. In addition to looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 82.080925 percent of its patients, which is a few points less than we were hoping for. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
