Facility Inspections
Although we did not rate this facility highly overall, we want to point out its nearly flawless inspections in recent years. We awarded them an A in this category. Our inspection ratings account for several factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we consider is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. You generally want to avoid nursing homes with too many severe deficiencies flagged. While this facility had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. A couple minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
One of this nursing home's more favorable category grades was in the category of short-term care. This wound up being its second best category. In that area, we gave this facility a C. Our short-term care grade is commonly employed to measure a nursing home's rehabilitation services. To provide high-end rehabilitation services, facilities generally must feature higher levels of highly skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other highly trained professionals. Unfortunately, we found that this facility provided fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other facilities. The final measure we looked at in this area is the percentage of residents who returned home from the facility. We found that just 5 percent of this facility's patients returned home. Unfortunately, this was below the national average.

Nurse Quality
Turning to the area of nursing care, this facility received a grade of just D in this category. Our nursing grade features many subcategories. The most heavily weighted factor is the number of hours nurses spend with residents. This nursing home averaged just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This number is quite a bit below the national average. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in computing our nursing ratings. This nursing home fared well in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.
Long-term Care Quality
The last category we scored was long-term care, in which this facility was given a rock bottom score here also. Sadly, it received an F for this category, which is definitely very concerning. In a long-term care environment, the nursing home's primary goal is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. On top of looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 99.01478 percent of its patients, which is better than most nursing homes. Surprisingly, this nursing home also fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had just 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.
