This facility really excelled in the category of short-term care, where it received an A-. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. If it wasn't for this category, this facility's overall score would have been much worse. Short-term care grades are generally used to score a facility's rehabilitation services. To offer high-end rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must offer better levels of skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other highly trained professionals. Remarkably, this facility provides its residents with at least 50% more physical therapist hours per week than the average facility. The last statistic we assessed in this area is the percentage of residents who who were able to eventually return home from the nursing home. We found that it fared as well as just about any nursing home in Nevada in this area with 61.9 percent of its residents returning home.

This facility also excelled in the area of nursing. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A- for that category, which is one of our highest scores. Nursing scores are largely based on the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. With 3.9 hours of nursing care per resident per day, this nursing home surpassed the national average. Finally, this place was also above average in each of the major quality measures we looked at in this category. It performed well when it comes to avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.

We would also like to draw your attention to this facility's strong inspection score. This facility earned a grade of B in this category, which is one of our better grades. Arguably the most important factor we consider in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a facility's inspection reports. Places with higher scores in this area typically dodged the more severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. This facility was assessed 7 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered to be major deficiencies. This means that the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies to be an immediate risk to patient safety or health. We should point out that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in this industry.

The final category we analyzed is long-term care. Sadly, it received an F in this category, which is a bottom of the barrel grade. This is certainly a significant concern. Nursing homes that receive this type of grade in this category may not provide the type of consistent around the clock care that some other nursing homes provide. This facility's vaccination statistics were a bit weaker than a few of the other data points in this area, such as its nursing hours data. This facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to just 86.55462 percent of its residents. We would like to see some improvement herein this statistic next year. To our surprise, this facility actually fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.88 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This is its best feature in this category.
