Medical Staff Hours Per Patient (2019)
On top of receiving a strong overall rating, this facility received an A+ inspection score. This grade is based on its recent government inspections. An A+ in this category is one of the highest complements we can pay to a facility. Arguably the most significant factor we consider in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Facilities with higher scores in this area most likely dodged the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. Fortunately, although this place had some minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A few relatively minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
Another reason we assessed this facility so highly is that it was awarded an A+ short-term care grade. This is simply as elite as it gets in this category. In computing our short-term care scores, we assess the facility's levels of skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other licensed professionals. This area is generally a reliable assessment of a nursing home's rehabilitation. Remarkably, this place provides approximately 1.5 times as many hours of services from physical therapists and registered nurses than most facilities we assessed. The final datapoint we assessed in this category is the percentage of patients that were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that it performed as well as just about any facility in Arizona in this area with 74.2 percent of its patients returning home. For most nursing homes, fewer than half of their short-stay residents are able to return home.

This facility is also strong in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of B+. It outperformed most nursing homes in this category. There are quite a few subcategories included in this grade. Many of these subcategories reflect levels of nurse staffing. This facility provides an incredible 4.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. Out of this total, many of the hours were provided by registered nurses, which is one of the most highly highly trained levels of nurses. On top of providing impressive levels of nursing care, this facility also excelled in the quality measures we assessed. It performed as well as any nursing home in the state when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.
Long-term Care Quality
The final area we analyzed is long-term care. This nursing home was given a better than average long-term care grade this year, with a grade of B-. Although this wasn't nearly as good as many of its other grades, this remains a decent rating for this category. In a long-term care environment, the primary goal is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. After assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination record. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like this facility submitted information on its vaccination levels. Finally, this facility excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
