Short-term Care Quality
In addition to being a strong nursing home overall, this facility also excelled in our short-term care rating, where it received an elite grade of A+. In determining our short-term care grades, we size up a facility's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other types of therapists. This rating is considered to be a fair measure of a facility's rehabilitation services. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we assessed the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 6.2 percent of this facility's residents returned home.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we graded this facility so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing score. Nursing turned out to be its second best category grade. In that category, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A. Our nursing score consists of quite a few datapoints, most of which are tied to nursing hours. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home performed very well when it comes to minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Facility Inspections
Another impressive feature of this facility is its inspection grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of A-. Perhaps the most significant factor we look at in computing our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher scores in this category most likely dodged the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. Fortunately, although this nursing home had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. We should point out that deficiency-free inspection reports are rare in this industry.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning to our final area, this facility received an acceptable long-term care grade. Even though this isn't as impressive as a few of its other scores, this is really a middle of the pack score. Our long-term care grade is often used to judge a facility's performance as a traditional nursing home, as opposed to focusing more on the skilled nursing services provided by a skilled nursing facility. Once we assessed the amount of nursing care, we then looked at the facility's vaccination record. We were pleased to learn that this nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia. This nursing home also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
