Facility Inspections
In addition to receiving a strong overall rating, this facility also received an A+ inspection rating. This grade is based on the facility's recent inspection reports. An A+ in this category is one of the best complements we can offer a facility. Inspection ratings weigh several factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with better scores in this category generally have few severe deficiencies. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
Adding to its high-end profile, this nursing home also performed well in our short-term care area. In fact, it received a score of A for that category. Our short-term care grades are vital for individuals seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally requires higher levels of skilled nursing services. This includes a wide range of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. This nursing home provides more services with registered nurses and physical therapists than most nursing homes we looked at. This is typically an excellent sign. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of nursing homes in the country with 58.3 percent of its patients returning home. This is a significantly higher rate than most nursing homes.
Long-term Care Quality
The next area we looked at is long-term care. This facility received an above average long-term care score, with a grade of B in the category. When facilities receive a score in this range in this category it typically means it has plenty of staff and is an overall good place to live on a permanent basis. One of the statistics we considered on top of nursing hours was vaccinations. This nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its residents. Vaccination is a reliable method to minimize negative health outcomes for the elderly population. This nursing home also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 1.71 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days.
Nurse Quality
The final area we rated was nursing. We awarded this facility one of our higher grades in that area, with a grade of B. While this wasn't as strong as several of this nursing home's other scores, it is still a fine grade. Our nursing grade includes many subcategories. The most important variable is the amount of time nurses spent with patients. With 3.9 hours of nursing care per resident each day, this place was above the national average. Lastly, this nursing home also performed well in several of the quality-based metrics we assessed. By way of illustration, in terms of the percentage of its residents sustaining falls which lead to major injury, this place performed as well as any nursing home in the state. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can typically be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
