Facility Inspections
With an overall grade this high, it should come as no surprise that this nursing home performed well in the area of inspections, where it received an A. Our inspection scores weigh a host of factors found on a facility's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher grades in this area typically have very few severe deficiencies. Fortunately, although this facility had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home also was awarded a strong short-term care grade. This actually ended up being this nursing home's second most impressive category grade. In that area, this facility received a grade of A. Short-term care ratings are vital for individuals seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally requires additional highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means a wide scope of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other types of therapy. One of this nursing home's strengths is physical therapy hours. We found that it offers at least 50% more hours with physical therapists to its residents than most other facilities. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of facilities in this area with 62.1 percent of its residents returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
Building on its strong assessment, this nursing home also was given a superb long-term care grade, with a score of A-. If you are looking for services other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at long-term care grades. Once we looked at the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination records. This facility vaccinated 85.843376 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which happens to be a few points lower than we expected but still a reasonably acceptable percentage. The last datapoint we assessed was the nursing home's hospitalization rate. Here we found that this place had 1.85 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is middle of the road in this area.
Nurse Quality
The last area we scored is nursing, where this facility was awarded a grade of B. Although this wound up being its worst category score, this is still a favorable score. We analyzed the qualifications of nurses employed by the facility, in addition to the number of hours those nurses worked with residents, in computing our score in this category. This nursing home provides 3.7 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also factored a few quality measures into our nursing grades. This facility was relatively weak in two of the major areas we focus on, with below average scores for minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. These areas are generally reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care provided.
