Short-term Care Quality
In addition to being a first-rate facility overall, this facility also excelled in our short-term care rating, where it received an A+. In forming these short-term care scores, we analyze the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The objective is to formulate a barometer for comparing the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. This nursing home is above the national average both in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents. These are generally good indicators of quality short-term care. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of patients that returned home from this nursing home. On top of excelling in the area of physical therapy, we found that it fared as well as just about any nursing home in the nation with 64.5 percent of its patients returning home.
Facility Inspections
In addition, this nursing home also excelled in inspections, where it received an A-. Inspection ratings are based on many items found on the a nursing home's recent government inspections. Facilities that excel in this area have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these places generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. Unfortunately, we were not able to locate information on deficiency's for this nursing home. Without having access to the information regarding deficiencies for this facility, it is challenging to really grade the place in this area.
Nurse Quality
This facility received a very good nursing grade this year as well. It received one of our better scores in that category with a grade of B+. The nursing score includes several factors, but the main one is the number of nurse hours spent with patients. This particular nursing home provided 3.7 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at certain nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these datapoints as good measures of the caliber of nursing care offered, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
Long-term Care Quality
The next area we analyzed is long-term care. We gave this nursing home a decent score in this area, with a grade of C. Even though this was not as favorable as several of its other scores, it is still not a terrible score. In a long-term care environment, the nursing home's primary goal is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 97.34849 percent of its residents, which is more than the average nursing home. This facility also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 1.66 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days.
