Facility Inspections
With an overall grade this high, it should come as no surprise that this facility excelled in the area of inspections, where it earned an A. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating our inspection scores. One key factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some end up being relatively minor. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.
Nurse Quality
We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this facility received an impressive grade of A- in our nursing category. When computing a nursing home's nursing rating, we assess the amount of time nurses are caring for patients as well as the skill levels of the nurses. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home performed very well in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality
Turning to another strength for this facility, we awarded them one of our higher grades in our long-term care category as well, with a B+. For prospective residents seeking a permanent place to live as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care grades are an important measure. Once we looked at the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 90.51724 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which happens to be a few points lower than we expected but still a respectable percentage. While its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we hoped for, at least this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Short-term Care Quality
The final category we analyzed is short-term care, where this facility received a B+. This rounded out a very favorable report card. Not many facilities received a B+ or better in every category. In computing our short-term care ratings, we look at the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our goal is to devise a tool for comparing the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final datapoint we looked at in this area is the number of residents that returned home from the nursing home. We found that 4.7 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.
