Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this facility an impressive grade of A for our long-term care rating. Nursing homes that excel in this category typically provide patients with more supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. After considering the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 99.0099 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents out of the hospital. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.25 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home has fewer hospitalizations than many nursing homes.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A

This nursing home also performed well in inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless government inspection report this year. It received one of our best grades in that category with an A. Few facilities with an overall score in this range performed as well in multiple categories. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating our inspection ratings. One critical factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these are relatively minor. While this facility had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

The next highest grade we gave this nursing home came in the category of nursing, where we gave it a grade of B-. This wasn't quite as good as some of its other scores, but a grade in this range is not the end of the world. The nursing category analyzes a handful of components, most of which are based on levels of nurse staffing. This facility averages 3.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day, which is not an impressive total. Finally, our nursing grades also consider quality-based metrics, such as preventing major falls. Despite not having the highest total nursing hours, this place actually performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is usually a reliable indicator that a place has quality controls in place. Many falls could be avoided if a facility supplies enough nurses aids to assist its patients.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

Our next area is short-term care, where we gave this facility a grade of C in that category. In forming these short-term care scores, we look at the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The purpose is to devise a measure for sizing up the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. We were pleased to find that this nursing home employs both registered nurses and physical therapists. The same can't be said for all nursing homes. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients who who were able to eventually return home from this facility. We found that 0 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was actually quite a bit below average.
