While we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it received a fairly respectable inspection report this year. As a result, it received a decent grade in that category with a score of C. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining our inspection ratings. One critical factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more important than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies are relatively minor. This nursing home had 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were in categories G through L. This means inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies to be an imminent threat to resident health or safety. Unfortunately, we also need to draw your attention to the fact that this facility received significant government fines in recent years.

One of the other reasons we graded this facility so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing rating. In fact, nursing turned out to be its second best category grade. In that area, we awarded this facility an C. Nursing scores are based in large part on levels of nurse staffing. This place provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is a low total compared to most other facilities. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures. Although this place got docked a bit for nursing hours per resident, it actually excelled in some of these quality-based metrics. With fewer than five percent of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, it did remarkably well in this area. This is typically a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as employing a policy of moving patients more frequently.

Unfortunately, this nursing home's next best score is long-term care. However, with a D in this category, it still performed relatively poorly. For residents looking for a permanent residence as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care is a very important category. Once we looked at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 96.78899 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is higher than the average nursing home. Surprisingly, this facility also fared well at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Sadly, some of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.

The final area we rated was short-term care, in which this nursing home received a rock bottom score here as well. It received an F in this category, which is obviously a major disappointment. Our short-term care scores are thought to be most meaningful for individuals needing rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation generally utilizes more skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes not only nursing services, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. With a grade in this range in this area, we weren't stunned to learn that this place was well below average in many staffing metrics we looked at. In fact, it provided far fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. The last metric we assessed in this area is the number of residents who ultimately returned home from the facility. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 4.3 percent of its residents returning home. Unfortunately, this was quite a bit below the national average.
