In addition to being a first-rate facility overall, this facility also excelled in the area of short-term care, where it received an A+. Few facilities performed better in this category. Our short-term care grades are critical for individuals needing rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically requires higher levels of highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes a broad spectrum of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. This facility excelled in two key staffing areas we assessed. The facility provided about 50% more care from registered nurses and physical therapists than the typical nursing home. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of nursing homes in this area with 70 percent of its residents returning home.

This facility also earned an A+ inspection score, making it one of the few places to receive multiple A+'s in our categories. This grade is based on the place's inspections. Our inspection ratings account for a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with better scores in this area tend to have very few of these severe deficiencies. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Another strength for this facility is long-term care, where it was given an A+ rating. This is just about as elite as it gets in this category. Long-term care scores in this range generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. After assessing the significant amount of nursing care provided by this nursing home, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 97.74011 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is significantly higher than the majority of nursing homes. Finally, we looked at its number of hospitalizations. We found that this nursing home had 2.79 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. While this wasn't as impressive as some of its other scores in this area, this figure may be skewed for some nursing homes based on some of the medical complexity of residents.

In the last area, this nursing home also was awarded an impressive nursing grade, with a grade of A-. This topped off a first-rate profile. In calculating our nursing scores, we weigh both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the levels of licensure of those nurses. This nursing home provided 4.2 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This was one of the highest totals we found. In addition, we found that a significant portion of this care was provided by registered nurses, which are highly skilled nurses. On top of offering impressive levels of nursing care, this place also excelled in several of the quality measures we assessed. With less than 5 percent of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home Colorado in this category.
