We also found that this facility excelled in our long-term care rating. We awarded them an impressive grade of A+ in this category. When facilities receive a score in this range in this category it generally means it has plenty of staff and is an overall good place to live on a permanent basis. On top of considering the well above average volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff at this nursing home, we also were impressed by the facility's vaccination statistics. For example, this nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to 98.92857 percent of its residents, which is very impressive. The last datapoint we looked at was the nursing home's hospitalization rate. Here we found that this place had 2.34 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days.

Among its many high-end scores, this nursing home received a top-shelf short-term care score. In fact, we gave it a score of A in that area. In calculating our short-term care grades, we assess the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The objective is to create a tool for sizing up the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. This facility provides more services with registered nurses and physical therapists than most nursing homes we looked at. The final metric we assessed in this category is the percentage of residents that returned home from the nursing home. We found that it fared as well as just about any nursing home in Florida in this area with 59.3 percent of its patients returning home. With most facilities, fewer than half of their short-term residents are able to return home.

Another impressive feature of this facility is its inspection grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of A. Our inspection grades account for several factors found on a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we look at is the number and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with higher scores in this category typically have few of these severe deficiencies. Fortunately, although this facility had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

In the final area, we awarded this nursing home an A for its nursing rating. This topped off a very impressive profile. Our nursing grade is based on the facility's nurse staffing levels. We look at both the levels of licensure of the nurses as well as the quantity of hours spent with residents. This nursing home provided 4.3 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This was one of the highest figures we found. In addition, we found that a significant percentage of this care was provided by registered nurses, which are highly skilled nurses. These are both really impressive figures. On top of offering impressive levels of care, this facility also excelled in several of the quality measures we looked at. With below five percent of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, it fared as well as any facility Florida in this category.
