Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for our inspections rating. Inspection ratings account for a host of factors included in a facility's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with higher scores in this category usually have few of these severe deficiencies. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Another strong feature for this nursing home is that it received an above average long-term care score. In fact, this proved to be its second best category score. In this category, we gave this facility a grade of B. Nursing homes that receive this type of score in long-term care tend to provide consistent 24/7 care to make sure residents are well cared for. After considering the quantity of nursing care, we turned to the facility's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 99.631 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia sadly is often a deadly illness for nursing home patients so we like it when a facility does not roll the dice on this issue. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This facilities third best category was short-term care. We gave it a grade of B- in this category. This is basically a middle of the road score in this category. In our short-term care score, we endeavor to craft a sound gauge for rehabilitation. In this process, we assess the facility's offerings of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final item we considered in this area is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We discovered that just 4.8 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is actually below average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

Turning to the fourth area, this facility received an acceptable nursing grade of C. Our nursing rating is primarily associated with the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Finally, we look at quality-based metrics, such as the percent of residents who sustained pressure ulcers and major falls. Sometimes these data points are measures of the quality of nursing care.
