Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home actually didn't perform quite as poorly in long-term care. We awarded it a B- for that category. Long-term care grades are essential for individuals seeking non-healthcare services such as personal care. One of the factors we considered on top of nursing hours is vaccinations. Frankly, we were a bit alarmed this facility provided the pneumonia vaccination to a relatively low 87.57576 percent of its patients. On a more positive note, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Turning to the area of nursing care, this facility received a grade of just D in this category. Unfortunately, this ended up being one of its better grades. Nursing ratings are largely associated with the nursing home's nurse staffing. With only 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient each day, this nursing home's nurse staffing levels were well below average. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing ratings. This nursing home fared well in terms of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.

Facility Inspections

Grade: F

This nursing home received an F for its inspection score. For places that received this bad of an inspection rating, we would scrutinize the severe deficiencies on its inspection report. This particular facility was assessed 3 deficiencies on its inspection report. The only positive thing we found is that none of the deficiencies were in the categories that indicate they posed a risk to patient health or safety. Finally, CMS cited this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. Hopefully, its performance improves in the future, but until then we simply can't recommend this facility.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The next area we scored is short-term care. This facility received a rock bottom grade of F in that category. In the area of short-term care, we seek to evaluate indicators of a facility's rehabilitation services. We look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Finally, we considered the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. This definitely was not a strength for this facility. We found that just 3.1 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most nursing homes, about half of their patients are able to return home so this is well below average.
