It should be noted that this nursing home's inspection grade outpaced its overall grade. In fact, we awarded it a B+ for its inspections grade, which is a very solid score. Arguably the most significant factor we consider in computing our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities with better grades in this area typically dodged the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. This is certainly a great sign for this facility.

We also awarded this nursing home an impressive grade in short-term care. This nursing home received a grade of B in this category, which turns out to be one of our more impressive grades. In calculating our short-term care grades, we look at the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The purpose is to formulate a scale for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. However, based on the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we considered the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 4.4 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.

The next highest grade we gave this nursing home in any area came in the category of nursing, where we gave it a grade of B-. When calculating our nursing ratings, we look at both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the levels of licensure of the nurses. This particular facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This figure is far below average. Lastly, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics. While this facility got docked a bit for nursing hours per resident, it excelled in some of these quality metrics. With fewer than five percent of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, it fared remarkably well in this area. This can be a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as having a system of turning residents at least once a day.

The final area we rated was long-term care, which proved to be this facility's worst area. It received a lowly F in this category, which is obviously very disappointing. For long-term care residents, the primary goal is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. Once we looked at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 99.002495 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is higher than most nursing homes. To our surprise, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.03 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home had less hospitalizations than many nursing homes. Sadly, a few of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.
