Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

Even though we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it received a decent short-term care rating this year. We gave it a C in that area, which was the closest thing to a bright spot we can find for this facility. Our short-term care ratings are considered to be more meaningful for individuals in need of rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation typically requires higher levels of skilled nursing. This means not only nursing services, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. We found that this nursing home was below average in the two key staffing areas we focus on. It supplied fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other nursing homes. It is important to determine whether this is adversely impacting the quality of care. Finally, we considered the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 5.2 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most nursing homes, closer to half of their patients are able to return home so this figure is below average.

Facility Inspections

Grade: D

This nursing home earned a grade of just D in the area of inspections. Unfortunately, this ended up being its second best grade. One of the most important factors in evaluating inspection reports is deficiencies. We would scrutinize the severity of those deficiencies. This nursing home had 10 deficiencies on its inspection report. The only positive thing we found is that none of these deficiencies were in the categories that indicate that they created a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility also received 41 substantiated complaints in recent years. This is yet another bad sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Turning to the area of nursing care, this facility received a grade of just D in this category. The nursing rating consists of several datapoints, however, the main one is the quantity of nurse hours per patient per week. This facility offered only 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This is not a very impressive figure. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. This facility fared well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these metrics to be good measures of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The next category we looked at is long-term care. Sadly, it received a lowly F for this category, which is a rock bottom score. If you are looking for services other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each nursing home's long-term care grades. One of the statistics we considered in addition to nurse's aid hours was vaccines. Fortunately, this facility administered the pneumonia vaccination to 98.33055 percent of its residents. Surprisingly, this facility was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Sadly, a few of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.
