Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Neither this nursing home's overall grade nor its category grades gave us much to write home about. Its best category was long-term care, but even there we gave it a D. This is still a well below average score. For long-term care residents, the facility's primary objective is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 98.47328 percent of its residents. To our surprise, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home had fewer hospitalizations than many nursing homes. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

This facility wound up receiving a a very poor score in our short-term care category. It was given an F in this area. Short-term care grades are commonly used to gauge a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation. To offer highly scored rehabilitation services, facilities generally must provide better levels of skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other highly trained professionals. Given its score in this area, we were not stunned to discover that this facility is well below average in terms of its number of registered nurse and physical therapy hours offered to its patients based on the data we looked at. Honestly, this was about what we expected to find. The last item we considered in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 0 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these subpar metrics was damning for this facility's short-term care score.

Facility Inspections

Grade: F

We wanted to note that this facility received an F for its inspection grade. An F in this category is alarming because it typically points to red flags on the facility's government inspection reports. With places that received this poor of an inspection grade, we recommend scrutinizing any severe deficiencies on its inspection report. This particular nursing home was hit with 7 deficiencies on its inspection report. The only favorable thing we found is that none of the deficiencies were in the categories that suggest they created a threat to resident health or safety. Finally, CMS cited this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. Hopefully, its performance improves in the future, but until then we simply can't recommend this facility.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

Moving on to our next area, this facility didn't perform well in this category either. Due to an abysmal grade of F in nursing, this is really as as uninspiring as it gets. In calculating a nursing home's nursing rating, we assess the quantity of hours nurses are seeing residents and the level of licensure of those nurses. This place provided a meager 0.2 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing ratings. This nursing home fared well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.
