On top of being an elite facility overall, this facility also excelled in the area of inspections, where it earned an A+. Few facilities performed as well in this category. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating our inspection ratings. One of those factors is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies can be relatively minor. This nursing home was assessed 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be major deficiencies. This means that CMS didn't consider any of these deficiencies to cause an immediate threat to patient safety or health. The fact that none of the deficiencies were severe made us feel better about this inspection report.

Adding to this nursing home's list of strengths, it also received an excellent nursing grade. We awarded them an impressive grade of A in this category. Nursing scores are primarily associated with the facility's level of nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided 6.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day, which was among the highest totals we found. Lastly, this nursing home also performed well in several of the quality-based metrics we assessed. By way of illustration, in terms of the percentage of its patients suffering falls leading to major injury, this nursing home performed as well as any nursing home in the state. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can generally be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

This nursing home received an impressive short-term care grade as well. We gave it one of our better scores in that area with a score of B. Short-term care scores are important for prospective residents looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually requires more highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes a vast range of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. However, based on the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we assessed the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that it outperformed the majority of facilities in the nation in this area with 50.7 percent of its residents returning home. This is a higher rate than most nursing homes.

The last area we looked at is long-term care. In that category, we awarded this facility a solid grade of C. This proved to be this nursing home's least impressive category. For prospective patients in need of a permanent residence rather than rehabilitation, long-term care grades are very important. This nursing home's vaccination records were a bit weaker than some of the other statistics in this category, such as its nursing hours data. This nursing home gave the pneumonia vaccine to just 86.14458 percent of its patients. We would love to see some improvement in this area in the future. Fortunately, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.7 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
