Facility Inspections
The main reason this facility received a decent overall grade is its excellent health inspections in recent years. We gave them one of our better scores in that category, with an A. This is a much better grade than the place's overall score, which was decent but certainly not elite. Inspection ratings are tied to many pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that receive favorable grades in this area have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these facilities generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. This place was hit with 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered to be major deficiencies. This means that the inspectors did not deem any of these deficiencies an immediate risk to resident safety or health. A few minor deficiencies should not stop you from considering a nursing home.
Short-term Care Quality
We also awarded this nursing home a strong score in short-term care. This nursing home earned a B+ in this area, which happens to be one of our more favorable grades. Short-term care ratings are critical for people looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally mandates additional highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes a broad range of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Unfortunately, it does not appear that this nursing home provided information about its staffing of registered nurses or physical therapists. The last item we looked at in this category is the number of residents who were able to return home from the facility. We found that 6.2 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

Long-term Care Quality
Unfortunately, this facility only earned a D for its long-term care rating, which is not a score to write home about. In a long-term care environment, the nursing home's primary goal is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. Once we looked at the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 99.64286 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is higher than most nursing homes. To our surprise, this nursing home also keeps its residents out of the hospital. It had just 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Unfortunately, some of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.
Nurse Quality
The next category we rated was nursing, which is this nursing home's least impressive area. It received an abysmal F in this category, which is clearly very concerning. When determining our nursing scores, we factor in both staffing levels and the training levels of the nurses. This nursing home provided only 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day. To pair with its below average totals in the area of nursing hours per resident, this facility had really poor scores in several of the quality-based metrics we looked at in calculating our nursing grades. We looked at the percent of residents experiencing falls which led to major injury. This facility was at more than 150 percent of the national average in this statistic. This is quite alarming in light of the fact that many falls could likely be prevented with better nursing care. This ended up sealing the facility's fate of earning a poor nursing rating.
