Facility Inspections

Grade: A

On top of receiving a great overall score, this nursing home performed even better in our inspections category which is associated with the facility's recent inspections. We awarded it a grade of A for this area, which is one of our highest grades. Inspection scores weigh a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we consider is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with better grades in this category generally have few severe deficiencies. While this facility had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

This facility also was awarded a favorable short-term care grade. Indeed, we gave it an above average grade of B+ in this area. In calculating these short-term care grades, we assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The purpose is to create a measure for comparing the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. However, according to the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we considered the percentage of residents who ultimately were able to return home from this nursing home. We found that 5.8 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

The next area we graded was long-term care. This nursing home was given a favorable long-term care grade, with a B+ in the area. When facilities receive this type of score in this category it is a good sign for patient care and indicates that the place is well-staffed with nurses aids. Once we looked at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 99.30314 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is far higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

The last category we scored is nursing. In this category, we gave this facility a solid grade of C. This actually ended up being this facility's least impressive category. We scrutinized the qualifications of nurses employed by the facility, in addition to the quantity of time the nurses spent with residents, in computing our grade in this area. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures. Although this facility got docked a bit for nursing hours per resident, it excelled in a few of these quality measures. With fewer than five percent of its patients sustaining pressure ulcers, it fared remarkably well in this subcategory. This is typically a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as by having a policy of turning residents more often.
