Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

To pair with its strong overall grade, we awarded this facility an A for our long-term care rating. Nursing homes that receive this kind of score in long-term care tend to provide consistent around the clock care to ensure residents are well cared for. In addition to assessing the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. Vaccines are vital to keeping residents out of the hospital. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

This nursing home also performed well in our inspection category, which is based on its inspection reports. We gave it an A- for that category. Perhaps the most critical factor we look at in calculating our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a facility's inspection reports. Places with higher scores in this category typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. While this facility had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

This nursing home was awarded a favorable short-term care grade as well. We gave it one of our higher scores in that category with a grade of B. In computing our short-term care grades, we look at the nursing home's levels of skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other licensed professionals. This score is frequently a fair measure of a facility's ability to rehabilitate patients. It doesn't appear that this facility provided registered nurse or physical therapist staffing data. The last metric we considered in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return home.
