Facility Inspections
This nursing home received a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to emphasize its nearly flawless government inspections in recent years. We awarded them an A+ in this category. Inspection ratings weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can learn more about each of these items by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home received 6 deficiencies on its inspection report. Overall, this is still a solid inspection report, but we'd always recommend looking into any deficiencies you find troubling.
Long-term Care Quality
In addition, we also wanted to draw your attention to the fact that this facility received strong long-term care marks in this assessment. We awarded them one of our higher grades in that category, with a B. This proved to be the facility's second best grade. Nursing homes that do well in this category typically provide residents with closer supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is better than most nursing homes. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality
We gave this nursing home just a D for our short-term care grade. This is not an impressive grade. Our short-term care grades are important for people seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually mandates additional highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes a wide spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. With its score in this category, we were not surprised to find that this facility is well below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours offered to its residents based on the metrics we looked at. Frankly, this was about what we expected to find. The final item we looked at in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 4.8 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these subpar metrics sunk this nursing home's short-term care grade.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home's worst category is nursing, which is the last area we analyzed. Unfortunately, we gave it an abysmal F in this area. Even with a few decent grades in other categories, this score is still concerning so we wanted to draw your attention to it. In computing a facility's nursing score, we look at the number of hours nurses are seeing patients as well as the level of skill of the nurses. This nursing home offered just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This statistic is significantly below the national average. To go along with its below average total nursing hours per resident, this facility had really poor marks in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at in determining our nursing scores. We looked at the percent of patients sustaining falls which led to major injury. This nursing home was at more than 1.5 times the national average in this statistic.
