Short-term Care Quality
Even though we gave this facility a terrible overall score, we awarded it a B- for our short-term care rating. Short-term care ratings are based in part on the facility's quantity of skilled highly skilled professionals. This means a vast scope of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, not to mention other variations of therapy. In this place's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. The hope is that this does not adversely affect the quality of care. The final measure we looked at in this category is the number of patients that returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 5.6 percent of this facility's patients returned home.
Nurse Quality
Turning to the area of nursing care, this facility received a grade of just D in this category. Unfortunately, this ended up being one of its better grades. Our nursing rating is largely based on a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home performed well in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.

Long-term Care Quality
Sadly, this nursing home only earned a grade of D for its long-term care grade, which is not a score to write home about. In a long-term care setting, the facility's primary goal is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. In addition to assessing the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is better than the majority of nursing homes. Surprisingly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility had less hospitalizations than many nursing homes. Sadly, some of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.
Facility Inspections
The final category we assessed is inspections. This facility did not receive favorable inspection reports in recent years. In fact, we had to give it an F here. For facilities with bad inspection ratings, you should really focus on any severe deficiencies found on their inspection reports. This nursing home had 4 deficiencies on its inspection report. The only positive thing we found is that none of the deficiencies were in the categories that suggest they created a risk to resident safety or health. Lastly, this facility was flagged by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. We prefer to avoid facilities with this designation. Please do your best to find an alternative nursing home.
