Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

While this nursing home earned a decent overall score, its inspections grade is notably better than its overall score. Due to a strong government inspection report this year, it earned one of our better scores in that area with a grade of B+. Arguably the most critical factor we look at in calculating our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Places with better grades in this category typically avoided the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. This facility was assessed 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered to be severe deficiencies. This means that CMS didn't deem any of these deficiencies to cause an immediate threat to patient health or safety. We should point out that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in the industry.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

This facility also received a favorable long-term care grade. As a matter of fact, we gave it a grade of B+ in this category, which is one of our better. When nursing homes receive this type of grade in long-term care it is usually a good sign for resident care and suggests that the nursing home is well-staffed with nurses and aids. After looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is much higher than the average nursing home. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

This nursing home's nursing grade appears to be one of its better features. The facility received a grade of C in this category. When computing our nursing ratings, we factor in both staffing levels and the training levels of the nurses. This facility averages 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day, which is well below average. Lastly, despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours, this place actually performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is usually a reliable indicator that a nursing home has quality controls in place.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The last area we looked at is short-term care. We gave it a grade of C in this category. This is basically a middle of the road grade in this area. Our short-term care grades are critical for people requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually utilizes more skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes a vast range of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. It doesn't look like this nursing home provided data regarding its registered nurse or physical therapy staffing. The last item we considered in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 4.6 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is below average.
