Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

We want to draw your attention to the fact that this nursing home really outperformed its overall grade in the category of inspections. In fact, it received an excellent inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in this area with an A+. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing these inspection grades. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these end up being quite insignificant. Although this nursing home had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

This facility also received a favorable long-term care score. In fact, we gave them a grade of B+ in this category, which is one of our more favorable scores. Nursing homes that excel in this category typically provide patients with better supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. After looking at the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 99.41349 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Vaccines are vital to keeping residents healthy. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

This nursing home's nursing grade appears to be one of its better features. The facility received a grade of C in this category. The nursing score is based on a number of datapoints. The most important variable is the number of hours nurses spent with residents. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Lastly, despite not having the highest total nursing hours per resident, this facility performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is typically a reliable indicator that a place has sufficient quality controls in place.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

The last category we analyzed was short-term care, turned out to be this nursing home's weakest area. We awarded this facility a D in that category. This really is one of just a few weak points on a quality report card. Short-term care grades are typically used to score a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation. To offer highly graded rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must have higher levels of skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other highly skilled individuals. We found that this place was below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours offered to its patients based on the measures we looked at. The last measure we considered in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 3.9 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these poor metrics doomed this nursing home's short-term care score.
