Facility Inspections

Grade: A

This facility received a strong overall grade as described above, but we especially would like to emphasize its excellent inspections in recent years. We awarded them an impressive grade of A in this category. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing these inspection scores. One of those factors is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some are relatively minor. While this facility had some deficiencies on its report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. A few relatively minor deficiencies aren't necessarily something to panic about.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Contributing to its profile, this nursing home also received a score of B+ for its long-term care rating. This is an above average grade in this area. Facilities that receive this type of score in long-term care typically provide consistent 24/7 care to make sure patients are well cared for. On top of considering the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 89.75903 percent of its patients. This is somewhat below what we anticipated. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

Another strong feature for this facility is that it received an impressive nursing grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of B. Our nursing grade is primarily tied to a nursing home's nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility Mississippi in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as having a protocol of turning residents more often.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The last category we scored was short-term care. It received a lowly F for this area, which is a poor score. You shouldn't necessarily disregard a facility because of one concerning category though. Our short-term care scores are based on the nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled highly skilled professionals. This includes a vast spectrum of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, in addition to other forms of therapy. It looks like this place was below average in two of the key staffing areas we assessed. The facility supplied fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most other facilities. Finally, we assessed the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that just 3.2 percent of this facility's patients returned home.
