Nurse Quality

Grade: A

We also want to emphasize the fact that this facility received an A for its nursing grade. Our nursing category is based on many factors, many of which are associated with quantities of nurse staffing. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home Minnesota in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as by having a policy of moving residents even once per day.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A

This facility has received near flawless health inspections recently. We awarded them an A in this area. These inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can learn more about each of these issues by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This nursing home received 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be major deficiencies. This tells you that CMS did not deem any of these deficiencies to cause an immediate threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

This facility also performed well in the area of short-term care, where it received a grade of A. Few nursing homes fared better in this area. In calculating our short-term care scores, we scrutinize a facility's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other licensed professionals. This area is generally a meaningful assessment of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final measure we looked at in this area is the number of patients that ultimately were able to return home from the facility. We found that 5.4 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

In the last area, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for its long-term care grade. This rounded out a very impressive report card. Facilities that excel in this category tend to be well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to patients. One of the factors we considered in addition to nursing hours is vaccinations. This facility provided the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its residents. This is a great way to minimize negative health outcomes for the senior population. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
