Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

One of the many reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it received an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical category. These inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

Contributing to this nursing home's list of achievements, it also was given a first-rate long-term care score. We awarded them an impressive strong of A in this category. Facilities that receive this kind of score in this category tend to provide consistent around the clock care to ensure residents are well cared for. After assessing the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is much higher than the majority of nursing homes. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

This facility received a very good nursing grade this year as well. It received one of our better scores in that category with a grade of B. We analyzed the licensure of nurses employed by the nursing home, in addition to the quantity of time the nurses worked with residents, in determining our rating in this area. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can typically be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The last area we looked at is short-term care. In that category, we awarded this nursing home a decent grade of C. This actually turned out to be this nursing home's least impressive category. Our short-term care grades are critical for patients seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually mandates higher levels of highly-skilled nursing services. This includes a broad scope of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. However, according to the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients who returned home from this nursing home. We found that 3.3 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was actually well below average.
