Facility Inspections
Although we were not high on this facility overall, we awarded it a grade of B for our inspections category. This score is far more impressive than the place's overall grade. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing these inspection scores. One of those factors is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies can be quite minor. While this place had some deficiencies on its report, none were severe based on CMS' scale. A few minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home also was awarded a favorable score in our short-term care category. We awarded this nursing home an above average grade of B in this area. Our short-term care grades are arguably most critical for those needing rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation typically requires higher levels of highly-skilled nursing services. This includes not just nursing, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like this nursing home provided information on registered nurse or physical therapist staffing. The final metric we looked at in this category is the percentage of residents who ultimately returned home from the facility. We found that 5.7 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

Long-term Care Quality
Unfortunately, this facility only received a grade of D for its long-term care score, which is not a score to write home about. Nursing homes that receive this kind of grade in long-term care may not provide the kind of consistent 24/7 care that some other facilities provide. After we finished looking at the quantity of nursing care, we turned to the facility's vaccination records. Frankly, we were a bit bothered by the fact that this facility vaccinated just 80 percent of its patients for pneumonia. Surprisingly, this place was actually decent at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 0.03 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This was its best feature in this category.
Nurse Quality
The next area we assessed was nursing. This nursing home received a bottom of the barrel grade of F in this area. Nursing grades are mostly tied to a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. To pair with its subpar totals in the area of nursing hours per resident, this place also didn't perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in computing our nursing scores. We looked at the percent of residents sustaining major falls and pressure ulcers. This nursing home had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average nursing home.
