Registered Staff Hours
Short-term Care Quality
Although we didn't give this nursing home a good overall score, we gave it a very strong grade in the area of short-term care, where it received a B. This is better than most facilities in this area. To some extent, this bailed out an otherwise abysmal profile. In our short-term care score, we strive to create a meaningful barometer for rehabilitation. In this process, we look at a facility's offerings of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we considered the number of residents that eventually returned home from this nursing home. We found that 5.2 percent of this nursing home's residents were able to return home.
Facility Inspections
Surprisingly, this nursing home actually earned a good grade in the area of inspections as well. We awarded it a B for that category, which is one of our better scores. Not many nursing homes that were this poor overall received multiple category grades of this caliber. Inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This place received 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered to be major deficiencies. This indicates that the inspectors did not consider any of these deficiencies to cause an imminent threat to resident safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.

Nurse Quality
We awarded this facility a respectable grade in the area of nursing as well, with a grade of B-. We weighed the licensure of nurses working for the nursing home, in addition to the number of hours those nurses worked with residents, in determining our rating in this category. This facility provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This is a much lower figure than we were hoping for. Lastly, we also looked at several nursing quality measures. Although this nursing home got docked a bit for nursing hours, it actually excelled in a few of these quality measures. With fewer than five percent of its residents experiencing pressure ulcers, it fared very well in this subcategory. This can be an indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as having a policy of moving a patient more often.
Long-term Care Quality
Moving on to our fourth category, this nursing home did not perform very well in this area either. Due to a very poor grade of F in long-term care, this is really as terrible as it gets. Facilities that do not fare well in this category typically are not as well-staffed and are lagging in a few of the areas of routine healthcare services we looked at. In addition to assessing the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 49.0625 percent of its patients. This is several points below the national average. To our surprise, this place actually fared well at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This is its best score in this category.
