Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

The primary reason this turned out to be a decent nursing home is that it earned an excellent inspection score. Its inspection score was far better than its overall score. In the inspections category, we gave it a grade of A+. Arguably the most critical factor we consider in computing our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a facility's inspection reports. Facilities with better grades in this category most likely dodged the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. This facility was assessed 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be severe. This indicates that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies to cause an immediate threat to patient health or safety. We should note that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in this industry.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

In addition, we also wanted to note that this nursing home was awarded impressive short-term care marks this year. We awarded them one of our more impressive grades in this category, with a B. This turned out to be the facility's second best grade. With our short-term care category, we try to forge a valuable barometer for rehabilitation services. In this process, we assess the facility's levels of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last metric we looked at in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We discovered that 5.4 percent of this facility's residents returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

This nursing home's nursing grade appears to be one of its better features. The facility received a grade of C in this category. Our nursing rating features a host of datapoints. The most important factor is the quantity of hours nurses spend with patients. This nursing home provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This figure is significantly below the national average. Lastly, while this facility got docked a bit for its nursing hours per resident, it actually excelled in a few of our quality measures. With fewer than five percent of its patients experiencing pressure ulcers, it performed remarkably well in this area.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The next category we rated was long-term care. We awarded it a grade of C in that area. This is a decent grade in this category. Our long-term care grade focuses on a facility's personal care instead of the skilled nursing or medical services that are critical to a skilled nursing facility. On top of assessing the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is more than most nursing homes. Finally, this place was also able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
