While this nursing home's overall grade was not a highlight, it actually excelled in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A+ for that category, which is one of our best scores. Inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can learn more about each of these items by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this nursing home had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G through L. This tells you the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.

Unfortunately, this nursing home's second most respectable score is long-term care. Nevertheless, with a grade of D in this area, it still performed somewhat badly. When facilities receive this kind of score in long-term care it is often a bad sign for resident care and it may indicate that the nursing home is not as well-staffed with nurses and aids. Once we assessed the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination record. We were concerned by the fact that this facility vaccinated only 90.734825 percent of its patients for pneumonia. Finally, we were stunned by the facility's number of hospitalizations. Here we found that this nursing home fared very poorly with 4.19 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Unfortunately, this figure is more than twice the national average.

We gave this facility a grade of just D for our nursing rating. In determining a facility's nursing grade, we assess the amount of time nurses commit to residents as well as the level of licensure of those nurses. This nursing home averaged a meager 3.1 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. This nursing home also had terrible scores in several of the quality-based measures to go along with its low nursing hour totals. We looked at the percentage of residents sustaining pressure ulcers. This facility was at more than twice the national average in this datapoint.

The final area we rated is short-term care. Sadly, it received an abysmal F in this category, which is a rock bottom grade. In determining our short-term care grades, we assess a facility's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other types of therapists. This category is frequently a useful measure of a nursing home's rehabilitation. With a grade of this caliber in this area, we weren't stunned to discover that this nursing home was well below average in several staffing figures we focus on. In fact, it supplied significantly fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most nursing homes. The final datapoint we looked at in this area is the number of patients who were able to return home from the facility. This facility struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 33 percent of its residents returning home.
