To pair with a strong overall score, we gave this facility a grade of A+ for our inspection category. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing these inspection ratings. One critical factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these end up being relatively insignificant. It does not look like we were able to find deficiency data for this nursing home. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Adding to its top-shelf performance in other areas, we gave this facility a score of A for our short-term care rating. Our short-term care ratings are arguably most critical for folks in need of rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation typically mandates additional highly-skilled nursing services. This includes not just nursing, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. We weren't able to track down information on registered nurse or physical therapy staffing for this nursing home. The last statistic we assessed in this category is the number of residents who ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. This turned out to be more of a strength for this nursing home. This place fared as well as just about any nursing home in Massachusetts with 66.4 percent of its residents returning home. With most nursing homes, less than half of their short-term residents are able to return home.

Moving on our next area, we awarded this facility a score of A- for its long-term care score. This is a first-rate grade. For residents looking for a permanent residence rather than rehabilitation, long-term care is an important category. One of the factors we considered after nurse's aid hours was vaccines. This nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccination to 85.71429 percent of its patients. Although its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we had hoped, at least this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

The next area we analyzed is nursing, in which this facility was given a B. Believe it or not, this turned out to be this facility's least impressive area. A nursing home is doing something right when it's weakest score still outperforms most facilities. There are numerous criteria included in this area. Most of the criteria are tied to staffing levels. This facility provided 0 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also assessed certain nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these data points as reliable measures of the quality of nursing care being provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
