Short-term Care Quality
One of the many reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received an A+ short-term care grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this category. Short-term care ratings are based on the facility's quantity of highly-skilled highly skilled professionals. This includes a vast range of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, not to mention other types of therapy. Remarkably, this facility provides about 1.5 times as many hours of services from physical therapists and registered nurses than most facilities we assessed. This is definitely a great sign. The final item we looked at in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that it performed as well as just about any nursing home in Nevada in this area with 71.5 percent of its residents returning home.
Nurse Quality
Another reason we rated this nursing home so highly is that it received an A+ nursing grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this category. Our nursing grade is largely tied to a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This facility provides an incredible 4.7 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. Out of that total, many of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which is one of the more highly trained levels of nurses. On top of providing high levels of care, this nursing home was also above average in each of the major quality-based metrics we assessed in this category. It performed well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.
Facility Inspections
This facility has received near flawless government inspections in recent years. We gave them an A in this category. Perhaps the most critical factor we consider in determining our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a facility's inspection reports. Places with better scores in this category most likely dodged the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. While this nursing home had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor made us feel better about this inspection report.
Long-term Care Quality
The last category we assessed is long-term care. This nursing home was awarded an above average long-term care rating in our assessment, with a grade of B-. Although this was not nearly as good as a few of its other scores, this is still an acceptable score in this category. In calculating our long-term care grades, we scrutinize the personal care received by the nursing home's patients. After looking at the impressive nursing hours provided by this nursing home, we then looked at the facility's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which appears to be higher than many nursing homes. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. While it had 2.23 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, its risk adjusted statistic was better than most nursing homes due to it having more complicated patients.
