Although we gave this facility a terrible overall grade, we awarded it a B- for our inspections rating. In fact, the facility received very impressive inspection report this year. Inspection ratings account for a host of factors found on a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. This nursing home was hit with 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe deficiencies. This means that CMS didn't deem any of these deficiencies an imminent threat to resident health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.

This nursing home also didn't rate too badly in the area of short-term care. Indeed, we gave it a grade of C for that category, which is another one of its higher scores. Our short-term care grades are based on the facility's quantity of highly-skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a vast scope of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, in addition to other forms of therapy. We were pleased to find that this nursing home employs both registered nurses and physical therapists. The same can't be said for all nursing homes. The final datapoint we looked at in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to return home from the facility. This place performed well in this area with 56.1 percent of its patients returning home. Unfortunately, at most facilities, fewer than half of their short-term residents are able to return home.

Another unfortunate development was the F this facility was given in the category of long-term care. When nursing homes receive this type of score in long-term care it is often a bad sign for patient care and it may mean that the facility is not as well-staffed. On top of looking at the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 93.68421 percent of its patients. This is a few points below what we were hoping for but still a decent percentage. To our surprise, this nursing home was actually decent at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This was its best feature in this category.

The final category we assessed was nursing, in which this nursing home received a rock bottom score here as well. It received an abysmal F for this area, which is obviously somewhat alarming. We scrutinized the levels of nurses working for the nursing home, as well as the quantity of time the nurses spent with patients, in computing our score in this area. This nursing home provides 3.1 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. To go along with its low totals in the area of nursing hours per resident, this place also did not perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in computing our nursing grades. We looked at the percent of residents sustaining major falls and pressure ulcers. This place had more falls and pressure ulcers than the average nursing home.
