While we were not high on this place overall, we awarded it a B+ for our inspections rating. This grade is far more impressive than the nursing home's overall score. Our inspection grades are tied to many items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are a key item to look for on these reports. You should especially avoid nursing homes with severe deficiencies associated with endangerment of patients. Although this nursing home had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none were serious based on CMS' scale. A couple minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.

We also gave this nursing home a solid grade in the area of long-term care, where we gave it a grade of B-. In a long-term care environment, the primary goal is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. In addition to assessing the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Fortunately, this nursing home administered the vaccine to 98.659515 percent of its residents, which is a very solid percentage. Unfortunately, this nursing home's hospitalization rate was less impressive. Here we found that this nursing home had 2.74 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days.

This nursing home's next most favorable area came in the area of short-term care. In that area, we gave this nursing home a grade of C. In calculating these short-term care scores, we analyze the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The objective is to create a barometer for comparing the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. In this place's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than the typical facility. The hope is always that this does not adversely affect the quality of care. Finally, we assessed the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. This proved to be more of a strength for this facility. In fact, we found that it outperformed the majority of nursing homes in the country in this area with 55.7 percent of its residents returning home. This is a higher rate than most facilities.

The next area we rated was nursing, which was this nursing home's least impressive category. We awarded this facility a D in this area. The nursing rating features numerous data points. The most heavily weighted factor is the amount of time nurses spend with residents. This nursing home provides 3.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is slightly below average. In addition to receiving below average marks for nursing hours, this facility was a bit less impressive in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at in calculating our nursing scores. We looked at the percentage of patients suffering pressure ulcers and found that this facility was at roughly 1.5 times the national average in this statistic.
