Facility Inspections
Although we were not high on this facility's overall performance, it did receive an impressive inspection report this year with few dings from the applicable government inspectors. As a result, it received one of our better grades in that category with a B+. Perhaps the most significant factor we look at in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. It is typically best to avoid places that had a long list of deficiencies. Fortunately, although this nursing home had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G through L. This tells you that the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
We gave this nursing home just a D for our short-term care rating and that actually ended up being its second best category. In determining our short-term care grades, we look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our objective is to devise a tool for comparing the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. As you might expect, we found that this place offers substantially less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than the average nursing home. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. This definitely wasn't a strength for this nursing home. We found that just 5.3 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most nursing homes, about half of their patients are able to return home so this is well below average.

Long-term Care Quality
This facility's second worse category was long-term care, where it received a grade of just D in that area. This is a relatively poor grade. In a long-term care environment, the facility's primary goal is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. After we finished assessing the amount of care provided by nurses, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination statistics. We were optimistic to learn that this facility vaccinated 99.2126 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Surprisingly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility has fewer hospitalizations than the average nursing home. Sadly, some of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.
Nurse Quality
Turning to our fourth area, we awarded this nursing home a D for the area of nursing. This was the nursing home's worst category rating. Our nursing rating looks at the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We look at both the levels of training of those nurses as well as the quantity of hours spent with patients. This facility averaged just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient each day. In addition to receiving below average marks for nursing hours, this nursing home was less impressive in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at in computing our nursing ratings. We looked at the percent of patients experiencing pressure ulcers and found this nursing home was at approximately 1.5 times the national average in this statistic.
