Facility Inspections
While this facility's overall grade was as bad as it gets, it actually fared well in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a B for that category, which is one of our better scores. Inspection ratings are based on several pieces of information found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important item to look for on these reports. You should especially avoid nursing homes that have severe deficiencies associated with endangerment of patients. Unfortunately, we were not able to find information about this nursing home's deficiencies. We would like to have more information about this nursing home. Without having access to the deficiency data, it is challenging to really evaluate the place in the area of inspections.
Short-term Care Quality
Unfortunately, this nursing home's next best score is short-term care. However, with a D in this area, it still performed somewhat poorly. In the area of short-term care, we try to assess indicators of a facility's rehabilitation services. We look at a facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and various therapists. Based on its score in this category, we weren't surprised to find that this facility was well below average in terms of its number of registered nurse and physical therapy hours offered to its patients based on the data we looked at. Finally, we assessed the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that just 0 percent of this facility's patients returned home.
Long-term Care Quality
In addition, we gave this nursing home an F in the area of long-term care. If you are seeking anything other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each facility's long-term care ratings. On top of looking at the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 97.297295 percent of its residents, which is better than the vast majority of nursing homes. To our surprise, this place also keeps its patients out of the hospital. It had just 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Unfortunately, some of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.
Nurse Quality
The next category we assessed was nursing. This facility was given a rock bottom grade of F in that area. The nursing grade is based on a number of data points. The most heavily weighted one is the amount of time nurses spend with patients. This nursing home provides 3.8 hours of nursing care per resident per day, which is slightly below the national average. To go along with its subpar totals in the area of nursing hours per patient, this facility also did not perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in determining our nursing ratings. We looked at the percent of residents experiencing pressure ulcers and major falls. This place had more falls and pressure ulcers than the average nursing home. This may be a bad sign when you consider that many falls and bed sores are preventable with better nursing care. These scores hurt this nursing home's nursing grade quite a bit.
