Facility Inspections
On top of being a strong facility overall, it also earned A+ inspections in recent years. Its inspections were nearly flawless. Arguably the most critical factor we look at in determining our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with better scores in this area typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
We also awarded this facility a score of A+ for its short-term care grade. Short-term care grades are often employed to gauge a facility's rehabilitation services. To offer good rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must provide higher levels of highly skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other types of therapists. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we considered the number of residents who ultimately were able to return home from this facility. We found that 6.9 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.

Long-term Care Quality
This facility also was dominant in the category of long-term care, where it received a grade of A. Very few nursing homes received a better grade in this area. If you are looking for anything other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at long-term care grades. Once we looked at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination records. This facility vaccinated 70 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which happens to be slightly below what we were hoping for but still a decent figure. While its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we had hoped, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
Nurse Quality
Turning to our fourth area, this nursing home was awarded an extremely favorable nursing rating. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A in that area, rounding out a straight A profile. In computing a nursing home's nursing score, we consider the number of hours nurses are seeing residents as well as the level of licensure of the nurses. This nursing home provides 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at some quality-based measures in this category. This facility fared well in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at. For example, in terms of the percentage of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, this facility performed better than the national average. This is generally an indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Pressure ulcers can generally be avoided with better nursing care.
