Facility Inspections

Grade: B-minus

Although this place's overall score is not a highlight, it actually received a slightly more favorable score in the category of inspections. We awarded it a grade of B- for this category, which is not bad. Inspection grades account for a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. In spite of this deficiency, this nursing home still received a relatively positive report.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

We also want to point out that this facility received a decent grade in our nursing category. We awarded it a grade of B- in the area. Our nursing rating is largely tied to the facility's nurse staffing. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Lastly, despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours, this nursing home performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is usually a reliable indicator that a place has quality controls in place.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

We also gave this facility a respectable grade in the category of short-term care, where we awarded it a C. In forming these short-term care scores, we quantify the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our objective is to formulate a measure for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different facilities. We found that this nursing home was below average in the two key staffing areas we looked at. The facility provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. It is still important to determine whether this is adversely impacting the quality of care. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 3.9 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most nursing homes, closer to half of their patients are able to return home so this figure is below average.

Long-term Care Quality

The last category we rated is long-term care. We gave it a C in that category. This is basically a middle of the road grade in this category. In determining our long-term care ratings, we assess the assistance with daily living offered to a facility's patients. After looking at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is more than the majority of nursing homes. This place also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.05 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
