While this facility's overall grade was terrible, it performed pretty well in the category of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a B for that area, which is one of our better scores. Arguably the most important factor we look at in determining our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. It is typically best to avoid nursing homes that had a long list of deficiencies. While this place had some deficiencies on its report, none were serious based on CMS' scale. A few minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.

One of the other reasons we graded this facility so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing grade. Nursing turned out to be its second best category grade. In that area, we awarded this nursing home a grade of F. Nursing scores are based in large part on quality and quantity of nursing care. With only 2.8 hours of nursing care per patient each day, this nursing home's nurse staffing levels were significantly below the national average. This nursing home also had terrible marks in some of the quality-based metrics to go along with its weak nursing hours. We looked at the percentage of patients sustaining pressure ulcers. This facility was at more than double the national average in this statistic. This is quite concerning when you consider that many bed sores are preventable with better nursing care. This ended up sealing the nursing home's fate of receiving a poor nursing grade.

Long-term Care Quality

This nursing home ended up receiving a a terrible score in our long-term care area. It received a lowly F in this area. If you are looking for services other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each nursing home's long-term care scores. After assessing the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination record. We were optimistic to find that this facility vaccinated 98.15498 percent of its residents against pneumonia. To our surprise, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility has less hospitalizations than many nursing homes. Sadly, some of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.

Short-term Care Quality

Moving on to the final category, this nursing home did not fare very well in this category either. With a rock bottom grade of F in short-term care, this is about as bad as it gets. In the category of short-term care, we attempt to assess indicators of a facility's rehabilitation. We look at the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that just 19.6 percent of this facility's patients returned home.
