Short-term Care Quality
We also found that this nursing home excelled at short-term care. We gave them an A+ in this category. Our short-term care scores are believed to be more meaningful for those in need of rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation generally utilizes additional skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means not merely nursing, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. This nursing home provided more physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most facilities. This is what we like to find when assessing a nursing home in this category. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents who returned home from this facility. In addition to excelling in the area of physical therapy, we found that it performed as well as just about any nursing home in the country in this area with 70.9 percent of its patients returning home.
Facility Inspections
This facility has earned near flawless health inspections recently. We gave them an A in this category. Inspection ratings are tied to several pieces of information located in the a nursing home's government inspections. Facilities that receive favorable grades in this category typically have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these places should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. It doesn't appear that we were able to find deficiency counts for this nursing home. Without having access to complete information regarding deficiencies for this facility, it was challenging to really evaluate the place in the area of inspections.
Nurse Quality
To complement its strong performance in other areas, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for our inspections rating. In determining our nursing scores, we analyze both nursing hours and the skill levels of those nurses. This place provides an incredible 4.8 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is much better than what is offered by most nursing homes. Finally, this nursing home also excelled in several of the quality-based metrics we looked at. With fewer than five percent of its residents experiencing pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Many pressure ulcers can be avoided by offering better nursing care and having a protocol of moving residents even once per day.
Long-term Care Quality
Switching gears to the final area, this nursing home also excelled in the long-term care category. In fact, we gave it a grade of B+ in this category. This finalized a very impressive report card. Long-term care ratings in this range generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. After assessing the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 96.55173 percent of its patients for pneumonia. Vaccines are critical to keeping patients healthy. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
