Facility Inspections
This nursing home received a quality overall grade as described above, but we especially would like to emphasize its nearly flawless government inspections in recent years. We gave it an impressive grade of A in this area. Our inspection ratings account for a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with better grades in this category tend to have very few severe deficiencies. This facility was hit with 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be major deficiencies. This means that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies to pose an immediate threat to resident health or safety. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor made us feel better about this inspection report.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home truly excelled in the category of short-term care, where it received a grade of A-. Very few nursing homes performed more favorably in this category. In crafting these short-term care ratings, we assess the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The goal is to create a barometer for comparing the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. This nursing home is above average both in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours offered to its residents. The last datapoint we looked at in this category is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that it was respectable in this area with 45.1 percent of its residents able to return home.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home also received a strong nursing score. In fact, we awarded it an above average grade of B in this area. Our nursing grade analyzes the facility's level of nurse staffing. We factor in both the levels of training of those nurses and the amount of time spent with patients. This facility offers 3.5 hours of nursing care per patient each day, of which more than an hour of those were provided by registered nurses. This is one of the most highly trained levels of nurses. In determining our nursing ratings, we add more weight to hours provided by registered nurses. Finally, we also assessed certain nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these areas as predictive indicators of the quality of nursing care offered, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
Long-term Care Quality
The final category we analyzed was long-term care, in which this nursing home was awarded a grade of B-. This actually is this nursing home's weakest area. This is nevertheless nothing to be ashamed of. Our long-term care grades are more important for people needing more conventional assistance related to activities of daily living. After considering the quantity of nursing care, we next considered the facility's vaccination record. We were pleased to learn that this nursing home vaccinates 98.57143 percent of its patients for pneumonia. This place also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had just 1.32 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days.
