Registered Staff Hours
Long-term Care Quality
Unfortunately, we didn't have any positive things to say about this nursing home's overall grade or its category grades. Its best category is long-term care. Nevertheless, with a D in this category, it still performed poorly. For long-term care residents, the nursing home's primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. One of the factors we considered on top of nursing hours is vaccinations. Thankfully, this nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its residents. To our surprise, this facility also keeps its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Sadly, a few of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.
Short-term Care Quality
Unfortunately, this nursing home's next most favorable category was short-term care. Nevertheless, with a D in this category, it still performed somewhat badly. Short-term care grades are often used to assess a nursing home's rehabilitation services. In order to have highly rated rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must provide higher levels of highly skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other licensed professionals. With a grade this poor for this category, we were not surprised to learn this facility was below average in two of the key staffing metrics we assess. The nursing home offered significantly fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most nursing homes. The last measure we considered in this area is the percentage of patients that returned home from the facility. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 0 percent of its patients returning home.

Nurse Quality
We gave this facility a grade of just D for our nursing rating. We analyzed the licensure of nurses working for the facility, as well as the quantity of time those nurses worked with residents, in computing our grade in this category. This facility provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in calculating our nursing grades. This facility fared well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these statistics to be reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care.
Facility Inspections
This facility did not receive a favorable inspection grade. We gave it a score of just D in this category. Inspection scores relate to a nursing home's government inspection reports. We weight poor inspection scores heavily in our assessment. Since government inspections are completed by independent inspectors, we consider this information to be very reliable. Our inspection grades weigh many items found on the facility's inspection reports. When you find severe deficiencies on the inspection reports, this is generally a bad sign. Severe deficiencies indicate a threat to patient safety. This particular nursing home had a category L deficiency, which is the most serious category of deficiencies. This category means CMS identified a widespread deficiency putting resident health or safety in immediate danger. Even a single deficiency in this category can drag a nursing home's inspection score down. Another area of concern is that CMS flagged this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. This is not what you want to see. We advise you to direct your search elsewhere.
