Nurse Quality
In addition to receiving a great overall grade, this nursing home received an A+ for nursing. Our nursing rating consists of many factors, many of which are tied to nursing hours. This facility provided 5.2 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This was one of the higher figures we found. Furthermore, a significant percentage of this care was provided by registered nurses, which are highly skilled nurses. These are both really impressive figures. On top of providing high levels of nursing care, this nursing home also excelled in the quality-based metrics we assessed. It performed as well as any nursing home in New Hampshire when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.
Facility Inspections
This nursing home also earned an A+ inspection score, making it one of the rare facilities to receive multiple A+'s in our category grades. This score is based on the nursing home's recent inspections. Our inspection grades are tied to items found on the a nursing home's recent inspections. Places that receive favorable grades in this category typically have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these facilities should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.
Short-term Care Quality
Turning our third category, this first-rate nursing home also excelled in the category of short-term care. In this area, we awarded it a grade of A+. Few facilities fared better in this category. Our short-term care ratings are vital for individuals seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally requires higher levels of skilled nursing. This means a broad scope of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Remarkably, this nursing home provides about 50% more services from physical therapists and registered nurses than most nursing homes we looked at. This is a very favorable sign. The final datapoint we looked at in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that it performed as well as just about any facility in New Hampshire in this area with 70.4 percent of its residents returning home. With most facilities, fewer than half of their short-stay residents are able to return home.
Long-term Care Quality
The last category we graded was long-term care. This nursing home was awarded a strong long-term care grade in our assessment, with a grade of B-. Although this isn't as elite as several of its other scores, this is still a respectable score in this area. Our long-term care scores are meaningful for patients needing personal care. In addition to impressive nursing hour statistics, this facility's vaccination records are favorable as well. In fact, it vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia. This combination proved to be successful as this facility keeps its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
